Irene Moerbe

Funeral services for Irene Moerbe, 96, of Giddings, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Chris Nietubicz officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Irene Ruth (Schubert) Moerbe was born on Aug. 19, 1920 in Northrup to Herman and Anna (Michalk) Schubert. She married Herbert John Moerbe on Oct. 23, 1938. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where she had been an active member of the Ladies Aid. Irene died peacefully during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017 at the Giddings Residence and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Jane Orts and her husband Joe of Giddings and Judy Matthijetz and her husband Albert of Giddings; four grandchildren, Sharon Proske and her husband Ricky of Giddings, Douglas Matthijetz and his wife Inez of Corpus Christi, Christine Hunt and her husband, Shannon of Giddings, and Janna Nail and her husband, James of College Station; seven great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings is in charge of arrangements.
