VA, St. Mark’s Close To Deal on Partnership

St. Marks Medical Center in La Grange is in need of some good news. And it might be coming soon.

Shaken by staff cuts and last week’s announcement of the impending closure of the birth center, St. Mark’s is being considered as a new home for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic in La Grange – which would be an expanded version of the VA Outreach Clinic currently operating on Travis St. here.

That new VA clinic would operate in existing space at St. Mark’s and the hospital would continue to operate as it normally does. That Travis St. location was considered for closure when a town hall meeting was held in La Grange in June. A standingroom- only crowd of vets argued for not only keeping the clinic in La Grange, but expanding its services. Somebody listened.
