Rogers Otto Findeisen, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 in La Grange. Rogers was born on Jan. 31, 1924 to Willie and Emma (Ashorn) Findeisen in New Ulm, Texas. He was baptized July 13, 1924 by Pastor A. Lindenburg in the New Ulm Lutheran Church. He was confirmed April 10, 1938 in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sealy by W.M.Schreiner. Rogers fought in World War II in the South Pacific on a heavy Cruiser; The USS Portland from Feb. 10, 1943 until Jan. 10, 1946. He served in the Navy as a GM3/C. He was awarded nine battle stars. He always said he was on the USS Portland two years, 10 months and 28 days. He was married to Vernice Reuter on Oct. 19, 1947 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. They celebrated 65 years of marriage prior to Vernice’s passing in 2013. He and Vernice adopted two daughters and lived in Houston until he retired in 1982 and moved to his beloved farm in La Grange. He loved to grow watermelons and vegetables as well as raise cattle. He is survived by his two daughters; Becky Lynn Bohot and husband Calvin, Connie Sue Michalksy and Dave Caughman; four grandchildren, Angela Aleman and husband, Marcos, Zabrina Karstedt and Michael Sloan, Crystal Richter and Chris Greater, and Tiffany Michalsky. He has five great grandchildren, Abigayle Karstedt, Mikayla Sloan, Nickolus Sloan, Aubree Graeter, Rebekka Aleman and Witten Graeter. He was preceeded in death by his parents, six sisters, two brothers, his wife Vernice and six brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. He is survived by numerous nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as family friends. Memorials may be made to either Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 785516, Topeka, KS 66675 or the Alzheimer’s Asoociation, P.O. Box 96011 Washinton, D.C. 20090-6011, or the charity of your choice. Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
