Irene E. Mazoch

Irene E. Mazoch, 81, died Oct. 6, 2017. Irene was born on Sept. 4, 1936 in Ammannsville to Charles and Marie (Hajovsky) Mazoch. She attended Schulenburg High School and upon graduation became a medical assistant both in Weimar and San Antonio. Her career path took a most fortunate turn leading her to The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. There she was employed 27 years in financial and accounting management for the Department of Psychiatry. Later, she was called back to part-time duty for an additional stay. Irene was extremely proud of her Czech heritage and found delight in participating in events sponsored by the Institute of Texan Cultures. She was most proud of being a member of The Bexar County Czech Heritage Society, where she held numerous positions and was honored by the Society as Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1994. Two trips to the Czech Republic secured her fondness even more for her heritage. Irene was a Czech through and through, and a member of KJZT. Irene is survived by longtime companion, Fred Morton and sister, Gabrielle Cervanka, along with numerous relatives and friends who brought her much joy. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Marie Laitkep, Anne Pfertner, Tonni Sumbera, Ladis Mazoch, Charlie Mazoch, Helen Hanacek, Jerry J. Mazoch and Ernest Mazoch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity in memory of Irene Mazoch.. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Ammannsville Catholic Church with the Parish Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. Burial followed in Church Cemetery. Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg was in charge of arrangements.
