Gersch

Funeral services for Frances Gersch, 86, of Northrup, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Frances Louise (Schatte) Gersch was born on May 12, 1931 in Giddings, the daughter of Johann Christoph Schatte and Louise Henrietta Rachel Emma (Umlang) Schatte. She was united in marriage to Herman Theodore Gersch on Oct. 23, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. Frances and Herman lived in California while Herman served in the United States Navy. After Herman received his discharge from the Navy, the family moved to Houston where Frances worked in the meat industry for 17 years. In 1980, they moved back to Giddings where she was a fulltime homemaker. Frances died Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at Cornerstone Hospital of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Louise Schatte; five sisters, Ottilie Prellop, Lillian Oltmann, Marie Fritsche, Dorothy Wieder and Elizabeth Kappler and four brothers, Henry Schatte, Christopher Schatte, Louis Schatte and Edwin Schatte. Frances is survived by her husband of 65 years, Herman Gersch of Northrup; two daughters, Cheryl Toff and her husband, Howard of Tucson, Arizona and Cynthia Gersch of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Schatte of Giddings and Elma Schatte of Houston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin or to the charity of one’s choice. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings is in charge of arrangements.
