Your Right to Know

Normally I get concerned when I receive a phone call from a disgruntled customer. It is my job to make sure that ads are properly placed, and that news stories are properly addressed. When something goes wrong, I usually get a phone call and I do my best to address the situation to make it right with the customer.

Recently, however, I received an angry phone call from a customer concerning a public notice. My initial concern was that we had somehow published something incorrect in the public notice and would need to run a corrected version, but that was not the case. The customer was concerned that I had called attention to the public notice, which would make people read it and potentially protest the permit that was being sought.

Let me state that again. The customer was concerned that someone would probably read the notice and take action. The customer then asked me to refund the money because I could have caused the business to lose money due to the protests that might occur because people might actually read the notice.
