Funeral services for Rev. Paul Bohot, 75, of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Bishop Michael Rinehart and Pastors Kelsie and Paul Theiss officiating. A private family committal service will be held in the Giddings City Cemetery at a later date. Paul Murray Bohot was born on Dec. 6, 1941 in Giddings, the son of Carl H. Bohot and Alma M. (Hilsberg) Bohot. He was baptized on Dec. 28, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann and confirmed his Christian faith on March 25, 1956 also at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Robert Studtmann. His confirmation verse was 2 Corinthians 5:15, “And he died for all, that those who live might live no longer for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.” Beginning in his early childhood, Paul always had a strong sense of vocation to pastoral ministry. He graduated from Concordia High School in Austin in 1960, attended Concordia Jr. College in Austin and received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1964 from Concordia Senior College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1968. He was ordained on June 23, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. After his second year at Seminary and prior to his vicarage, he married Lois Schroeder. They were married 28 years and were blessed with two children, Rebekah and John. Paul first served the congregations of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Corning, Ark. and St. John Lutheran Church in Lafe, Ark. from 1968 until 1971. From 1971 until 1977, he served the congregations of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockport, Faith Lutheran Church in Aransas Pass and Trinity Lutheran Church in Refugio. In 1977, he became pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Arthur where he served until 1984. From 1985 until 1994, he served the congregation of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin. After serving at Redeemer in Austin, Paul resigned from the pastoral ministry and worked for a local funeral home for several years. In 1995, he married Mary Lynn Mcneal. In time, he moved to the ELCA where he served the congregation of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine from 1997 until 2010. Even following his retirement in 2013, Paul continued to help at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings and with the Shared Lutheran Ministries of Fayette County (SLMFC) where he preached at two of the four congregations each Sunday and taught bible study on Wednesday nights. During his ministry, Paul also served on the Board of Regents at Concordia University Texas, was a Pastoral Counselor for the LWML, served as a chaplain at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin and was a Stephen Ministry trainer. He also enjoyed photography, music (especially jazz), and classic cars. Paul died the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 at his home in Giddings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alma Bohot. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Bohot of Giddings; his former wife and mother of their children, Lois Bohot of Frisco; his daughter and son-in-law, Rebekah and Max Kiesling of Frisco; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Kim Bohot of Houston; five grandchildren, Christiana, Katherine and Abigail Kiesling all of Frisco and Aislinn and Isaiah Bohot both of Houston; his sister, Carolyn Bohot Miertschin and her husband, Monroe of Winchester and one niece, M’Linda Taylor and her husband, Cloyce Canter of Ohio.
