Remember When?
Dec. 1 - 5, 1967
The Oct. 14 burglary of the Kubala TV & Appliance firm at Schulenburg was solved when Sheriff T.J. Flournoy secured a signed statement from one of two San Antonio subjects who admitted committing the early morning break-in. They were apprehended by Weimar City Marshal Fred Vornsand on Nov. 21 following the burglary of a grocery store there. The pair also was wanted for burglaries in Sealy, Katy, Taylor, Kyle and San Marcos.
One man was in custody and another was still on the run after a hijacking at the Erwin Kurtz Gulf Station in Flatonia. Sheriff T.J. Flournoy said that when the duo entered the station on Sunday about 7:30 p.m., they demanded the money in the cash register from attendant Ronnie Masek. When Masek opened the drawer, the pair scooped out about $130 and fled in a 1959 Chevrolet registered in Gonzales County. The all-points bulletin broadcast over the sheriff’s shortwave radio resulted in a quick arrest.
