Two Fayette Co. Residents Running for House Seat Face Crowded Field
Five Republicans filed for a place on the primary ballot for the Texas House District 13 election following incumbent Leighton Schubert’s surprise exit from the race.
Schubert withdrew from the race just ahead of the Dec. 11 filing deadline. The five candidates seeking his seat are David K. Stall of Fayetteville, Marc S. Young of Sealy, Ben Leman of Iola, Jill Wolfskill of Bellville and Daniel McCarthy of Brenham. Stall was chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party until he resigned last week to enter the race. Young is a retired oil and gas engineer. Leman is the former Grimes County Judge, who resigned in September to enter the race. Wolfskill and her husband own James Industries in Bellville, a company that supplies equipment and service to the refinery and power plant industries. McCarthy previously attempted a run for the District 13 House seat in 2014, but failed to get enough signatures to get on the ballot.
