Remember When?

The new St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at Holman was dedicated at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. The program began with a blessing and the laying of the cornerstone, followed by the blessing of the church and a large statue of St. Wenceslaus. The recently organized Holman choir performed at a High Mass. The new church replaced Holman’s previous church that had been dedicated on Dec. 21, 1919, and razed by fire on Nov 25, 1964.

The La Grange Leopards suffered a 68-57 setback at the hands of the Bastrop Bears. La Grange made good on only 11 of 25 free throw attempts, and a number of them were of the one and one variety. The Leps shot with 52% accuracy from the field, which had been good enough to win most games, but the Bears hit 64% of their field goal tries. Preston Parms was high scorer for La Grange with 13, while Ira Collins got 12, Shellie Hatch 10, Roy Williams 8, and Wayne Otto and Bill Ingram each chipped in 7 points.
