Donald Ray Moerbe
Donald Ray Moerbe, 69, of Georgetown, formerly of La Grange, died Jan. 1, 2018. Donald was born in La Grange on Nov. 13, 1948, the son of Wanda (Bamsch) and Marvin Moerbe. He married Dorothy “Dot” Allen on Dec. 12, 1970 in River Forest, Ill. Donald began his career as a Lutheran school teacher and principal at Emmanuel Lutheran School in Asheville, N.C. They moved back to La Grange in 1987, where Don joined his father and brother in the family farming including Colorado Valley Seed and Fertilizer. Don also established his own businesses including C-V Chemical Service with his wife Dot and Moerbe Partnership with his brother Michael. He served his community on the boards of the Fayette County Country Fair, Fayette County Farm Bureau, and Mt. Calvary Men’s Club. Donald enjoyed hunting and fi shing; playing outside with his grandkids; playing baseball for the La Grange Leopards, La Grange Demons and the Concordia Stags; and barbequing, with his dad, for community functions, especially the annual Camp Lone Star BBQ. He is survived by his wife, “Dot”; daughter, Lisa Moerbe Schaller and husband, Rev. Scott Schaller of Thorndale, Texas; son, Rev. David Moerbe and wife, Becky of Birmingham, Alabama; daughter, Laura Moerbe Brynestad and husband, Rev. Christopher Brynestad of Georgetown Texas; two sisters: Betty Welnack of San Antonio, Texas and Kathy Walther and husband, Ray of Giddings, Texas; eight grandchildren: Wyatt, Marisol, and Rileigh Schaller; Samuel, Andrew and Clara Moerbe; Bryce and Brock Brynestad; nieces and nephews: Matthew Welnack, Megan Welnack, Aaron Walther, Joshua Walther. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Moerbe. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin in La Grange. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of fl owers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Lone Star-LOMT’s Summer Camp Scholarships, P.O. Box 457, La Grange, Texas 78945.
