Remember when?
Jan. 26-30, 1968
Brenham Cotton Mill, Inc. of Brenham purchased approximately 80 acres on Hwy. 71 four miles west of La Grange for a plant site where polyester and cotton blend fabrics made specifically for the pockets of garments would be manufactured. The 100,000-square-foot operation was expected to employ 100 to 125 workers.
Mrs. Fred Chovanec brought a 41-inch long bobtailed rattlesnake into The Record office. When her husband came across the snake in his pasture, he thought it might have been routed from its den by high water on the nearby Colorado River. Mr. Chovanec returned home, got his shotgun and dispatched the reptile. Bobtailed rattlesnakes were somewhat rare in the area and the sighting of any snake in January was even rarer.
