Young Claims House Race Is Up For Sale

Marc Young, one of the five Republican candidates for the District 13 seat in the State House of Representatives (which include Fayette County), said last week that political contributions are having a huge impact in the race – and leaving some candidates on the outside.

Young made the announcement that he was going to stop advertising at a candidate forum in Sealy Thursday, Feb. 8.

“I am a retired engineer and cattle rancher who got into this race to try to keep people from taking my land and my water away,” Young said at the forum. “But it does not look like I am going to be able to go to Austin to do that. Why? Because I just don’t have enough money to try to buy this election.”

In an interview with the Record last Friday, Young said he made the decision after getting the results of a poll that he commissioned. Young hired Florida-based Gravis Marketing to poll 302 registered Republicans who live in the seven counties that make up District 13. He came in a distant third place with about 15 percent support.
