Robert Paul Streiff, 84, of Round Top, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12, 2018. Robert (“Bob”) was born in Freeport, Illinois on June 23, 1933, the son of William and Theresa (Michel) Streiff. He was raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was Class President of Gulfport High School. Bob received his B.A. from Southern Mississippi University. During the Korean War, Bob served stateside as a supply sergeant in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge he worked for El Paso Natural Gas then later earned his law degree from the University of Houston. He married his beloved wife Carole on December 31, 1964 in Houston, Texas. Bob began his legal career in Galveston, Texas. He worked in private practice handling real estate and probate matters before moving into title insurance. He worked in a variety of capacities in the title insurance industry, including serving as general counsel for several title companies in the Houston area. Bob loved the gulf coast, residing in Galveston and then Clear Lake. He was Chairman of the Jamaica Beach Board and a leader in the incorporation of Jamaica Beach Village that later resulted in Jamaica Beach being the only portion of the island not becoming part of the city of Galveston. He served as President of the Space City Aquatic Team during a period when they enjoyed state champion titles in swimming and had a national presence, including relay championships. Bob often served in leadership roles not by aspiration, but rather by request. He was an avid reader who deeply appreciated history and the natural wildlife of the gulf coast. He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughter, Leslie Pennington and husband, John, of Houston; two sons: Stephen Streiff and wife, Ruth Ann, and J. Richard Streiff, all of Round Top; and four grandchildren: Ashley Gutierrez and husband, Frank; Mary Catherine Streiff; Helen Streiff and Caroline Streiff. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Susan Streiff, and infant grandson, William Streiff, as well as three brothers: William, Cuthbert and Richard Streiff, and one sister, Patricia Joachim. The family would like to acknowledge the services and support provided by Hospice Brazos Valley and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville. A rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. followed by the funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
