Vit Janda

Vit Janda died peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born on Feb. 4, 1928 in Hostyn, to C.M. Janda and Bessie Kallus Janda, Vit was the youngest son in a family of 11 children. He attended Catholic elementary school and La- Grange High School, where he was the valedictorian of his class. He graduated from Texas A&M University and then served in the U.S. Army. Vit married the love of his life, Gertie Horak, on July 9, 1952 in Weimar, Texas. They made their home in Bellville beginning in 1954. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gertie Janda; son Mark Janda and wife Shirin; daughter Patti Schmidt; son Ken Janda and wife Tracy; daughter Susie Marek and husband Barnell; son J.D. Janda and wife Nancy; and daughter Angela Langan and husband Larry. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Regan Schmidt, his infant great grandson, Hudson Marek, his parents, C.M. Janda and Bessie Janda, and four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville. A private burial followed at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Bellville or to the Bellville Lions Club. Knesek Funeral Chapel Bellville was in charge of arrangements.
