Bernice Marie Ridgway went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018, in Houston. She was born in Plum on July 1, 1940. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Kovar Muzny and Theodore Muzny, her brother Gene Muzny and sister Gladys Kaltwasser. Surviving Bernice is her husband Mayo Donald Ridgway; sons Mike Hebert and wife Judy, Randy Hebert and wife Mary, Lon Ridgway, and Steve Ridgway and wife Susan; brother Steve Muzny; sister Georgia Schrader; grandchildren Christi Hebert, Alex Hebert, Courtney Wooldridge, Vanessa Hebert, Dylan Hebert, Layne Ridgway, and Travis Ridgway; great grandchild Lucy Wooldridge. Bernice grew up on a farm in Plum where family values and hard work were the centerpieces of life. She attended LaGrange High School and graduated from Reagan High School after the family moved to Houston. It was later in life that she received her associate’s degree in accounting from Central Texas College. She worked in various accounting roles as Don’s military career took them around the world. Don and Bernice recently celebrated 48 years of marriage and Don was at her side when she passed away. She was a beloved mother whose love for her family was paramount. She loved to serve through cooking and hosting family gatherings, especially when the grandchildren and great grandchild came along. She never missed an opportunity to love on her family. She was a woman of strength and great resolve, although she may not have described herself as such. When her illness was slowly making it impossible to be active she still found ways to serve others and yet was humble enough to allow others to serve her in her greatest time of need. Above all, she supported her family through daily prayer. Her family will dearly miss her warm hugs, the inquisitive and sometimes delving conversations, and her unique sense of humor. A funeral service is scheduled Saturday, April 7 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 13001 Katy Frwy. in Houston with a Rosary Service at 1 p.m., visitation at 2 p.m., and Funeral Service at 3 p.m. followed by Committal Service. Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery in Houston is in charge of arrangements.
