Floyd Joseph “Joe” Hoefer
Floyd Joseph “Joe” Hoefer, 89, of Victoria died Saturday, April 7, 2018. He was born on Dec. 16, 1928 in La Grange, to Joseph Hoefer and Marie Hoelscher Hoefer. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville. He taught Industrial Arts at Victoria Independent School District for 37 years. He instilled his love for wood working to many generations of young minds. Joe also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Joe was a man that never met a stranger. He would always have a smile on his face and would help anyone do anything at any time. After he retired from teaching, he never quit working. He could be seen at all VISD sporting events selling tickets. He was also very active at John Wesley United Methodist Church lending a helping hand with the Men’s Breakfasts and ushering duties. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Dorothy Spikes Hoefer; loving father to daughters, Claudia Crawford of San Antonio, Karen (Gene) Sanders of Kyle; brother to loving sister, Rose M. Mayer of La Grange; loving grandfather to five grandsons and loving great-grandfather to five great grand-children. Joe is also survived by his sister-inlaw, Jackie (Edwin Jr.) Roark of Huntsville. Preceding Joe in death were his parents, Joe Hoefer and Marie Hoelscher Hoefer; his mother-inlaw, Ollie Keitel; his brother-inlaw, Edgar Mayer; and his son-inlaw, Roger Crawford. Visitation was held Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Carl Westbrook officiating. At the conclusion of the chapel service, full military honors was conducted by the Victoria Veterans Council. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at La Grange City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wylie Crawford, Colin Lee, Michael Sanders, Tommie Alexander, Del Schulz, and John Morkowsky, with Honorary Pallbearers being Zachary Crawford, Tyson Crawford, and Hughston Crawford. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joe’s name to the American Lung Association or to John Wesley United Methodist Church.
