Janice graduated from Texas A&M University of Galveston with her Bachelors degree in Marine Science in 1978. She lived and worked in Hawaii for four years where she obtained her real estate license and worked on a freshwater oyster farm. After returning to Texas, Janice continued to pursue her interest in real estate and obtained her broker license, owning Coastal Area Real Estate in North Padre Island for sixteen years. She was an environmental grant writer, owned and operated a Sea Camp for children teaching classes in marine education and held Elderhostel classes in bird watching. Janice belonged to the Civic Association of Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Association of Realtors, and volunteered for the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Janice’s volunteer work with them provided her the opportunity to work with all beached marine life requiring necropsies and the pleasure of rescuing stranded marine life. This is where she acquired the nickname of the “Dolphin Lady” when she helped rescue and promote the volunteer and outreach program to save the life of a 3 month old bottlenose dolphin she named Gilly who now resides at Sea World in San Antonio. Janice loved spending time at the ocean. She enjoyed birdwatching, surfing, sailing, kayaking and scuba diving. She traveled extensively to pursue these interests.
