Propane Transport Driver Charged with DWI After Roll Over in Willow Springs
The driver of an 18-wheeler hauling 8,000 gallons of propane is in the Fayette County Jail for DWI this morning, May 1, after rolling his rig over last night in Willow Springs.
According to Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck happened around 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30. No propane leaked from the transport vessel, although officials did evacuate some houses on Darden Lane as a precaution. Noviskie said the rig was traveling west on SH 159 toward Fayetteville. He said the driver went out of his lane across the median, overcorrected and then rolled the rig over.
“It slid on its side down 159 a pretty good distance before stopping,” Noviskie said. “It could have been a disaster, we’re very lucky it wasn’t.”
Texas Department of Public Safety, Fayette County EMS, Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the wreck. Officers determined that the driver was intoxicated, Noviskie said.
The driver was taken to St. Mark’s Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries. He was then transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and booked for driving while intoxicated.
