Edwin “Ed” Unger Jr.

Funeral services for Edwin “Ed” Unger Jr., 90, of Smithville, are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester with Rev. Henry Wied officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 7 a.m. until 8 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Edwin Herman Unger Jr. was born on July 20, 1927 in Winchester to Edwin Herman and Elsie (Schmidt) Unger. He died Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing Center in Bastrop. Edwin is survived by his sons, Michael Unger and his wife Susan of Houston, and Steven Unger and his wife Laura of Houston; daughter, Sandra McGuire and her husband Ralph of Spring; two step sons, Tony Schatte and his wife Sheila of Wimberley, and Bruce Schatte of Giddings; four step daughters, Susie Harvey of La Grange, Pattie Koenning of Houston, Kathi Chambles of Arlington, and Nancy Koslan of Houston; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brother, Paul Unger and his wife Charlene of Amarillo; two sisters, Louise Hohle of Austin, and Ruth Reinhardt and her husband Edward of Austin, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, step grandchildren and friends.
