Fire Burns 400 Hay Bales in Ellinger

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that around 6:28 a.m. on Friday morning, May 18, his office recieved a call reporting a barn on fire at the Banks Ranch in Ellinger. 

Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department responded and called for help from Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arival they found a barn willed with 400 bales of hay on fire. The two departments battled the blaze but eventually decided to allow the fire to burn itself out.

The hay in the barn was recently baled and may have had excessive moisture. Firefighters believe the fire started from heat generated by the tightly-baled green hay.

There were no injuries.
