Remember when?

May 28-31, 1968

Hail and high winds practically wiped out crops, knocked out window panes, uprooted trees and scattered limbs in a two to three square mile area east of Round Top on Sunday morning. Hardest hit were the farms of Alfred Braun and Wayland Hinze, with the Krause properties also sustaining heavy damage. Mayor Don Nagel said Round Top itself had only a little hail, but severe winds caused damage to trees and knocked over a rail fence on the Bybee properties. Southwest of Carmine, hail flattened some fields of corn.

Mrs. L. D. Boelsche was recovering in Fayette Memorial Hospital from five copperhead snake bites received at her home on the Bluff. After placing a hanging basket, Mrs. Boelsche was getting ready to remove the stepladder when she apparently stepped in a nest of copperheads. Before she got away, she was bitten on both legs. Fortunately, her husband, Dr. Boelsche, was home and administered first aid before taking her to the hospital. Mrs. Boelsche was quite ill for several days.
