Rohde

A private memorial service for Elgin Rohde, 96 of Lexington, will be held at a later date. Burial of ashes will follow in the Florida Chapel Cemetery in Round Top. Elgin John Fritz Rohde was born in Warrenton on Nov. 14, 1921 to John Herman and Laura Louise (Brunken) Rohde. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton on June 4, 1922 by Rev. Mc Hoermann. He was confirmed on Sept. 15, 1935 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton by Rev. Bossard. Elgin was drafted in the U.S. Army from the Fayette County Courthouse when he was 18 years old along with many of his cousins. He served a complete European Tour during World War II. After the war, Elgin moved to Houston where he was married to Esther Bell Philp on June 16, 1953. They had three daughters, Betty, Peggy and Judy. At the age of 96, he departed this world on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange under the care of Hospice Brazos Valley and staff. He will be greatly missed. Elgin is survived by his three daughters, Betty Lynn Luedke and her fiancé Ricky Lynn Cook Jr. of Lexington, Peggy Jean Rohde of Killeen, and Judy K. Price and her husband Stuart of Paris, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings is in charge of arrangements.
