Myers
Travis W. Myers, 97, of Schulenburg, died Oct. 6, 2018 in La Grange. Mr. Myers was born April 6, 1921 to Harve and Julie Myers in Osage County, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; brothers, Douglas, Tracy, Troy, Basil, and Harvey, and sisters, Audrey and Gilda. His is survived by his son, Robert W. Myers and daughter-in-law, Grace Myers of Houston, Texas. Mr. Myers’ life- long ambition was to fly and work on airplanes. He was an active private pilot and an F.A.A. licensed mechanic well into his senior years. In the fall of 1939, Mr. Myers went to work for Lockheed Aircraft Company in Burbank, California where he worked on a team building bomber aircraft for England. Four years later, he was called to serve in the Air Force Cadet Program from which he received his pilot’s wings. With the war in Europe coming to a close, he transitioned from pilot training to aerial engineering reporting to the Commander Officer of Santa Maria Air Base, California. From 1946 to 1949, he attended University of Southern California majoring in Electrical Engineering. Later in 1949, he accepted a position of Plant Engineer with Continental Can Company. He subsequently advanced through various plant operations managerial positions in Texas, Maryland and California. He subsequently became a construction engineer working on commercial projects through- out the United States. Retiring from this role, he and his wife, Helen, built numerous residential properties in Texas and Oklahoma for resale. In 1996, the final house built was in High Hill, Texas which became their retirement home. Mr. Myers throughout his adult life was actively involved with the Masonic Lodge where he advanced to the degree of Master Mason. He was dedicated to the mission of the Scottish Rite receiving the degree of 32° Knight Commander of the Court of Honor. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 at the Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kristin Galle officiating.
