What Would We Do Without Local Medical Care?

I found myself in need of medical care again recently. The details of what was wrong are not really the important part of the story, what is important is how I was cared for.

I had a small spot on my arm (probably a bug bite) that was red and seemed to possibly be infected. I put some antibiotic cream on it and covered it up hoping that would take care of it. After a couple of days, (on a Thursday evening) I realized that it was not getting better and by Friday morning, it was definitely worse. Time to call the doctor. Unfortunately, my doctor was not in the office that day because he was taking the internal medicine board exams. The other doctors in town did not have any available appointments, so I made the decision to go to our local hospital emergency room.
