Funeral services for Lloyd Russell, 82 of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Ryan Grube officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box. Lloyd Allan Russell was born on July 17, 1936 in Stillwater, Okla. to Everett Edgar Russell and Hattie November (Hutson) Russell. He married Lydia Carolyn Schultz on Aug. 12, 1961 in Somerville. He joined the United States Army on Oct. 26, 1961 and received his Honorable Discharge on March 31, 1964, having obtained the rank of Private First Class. Lloyd owned and operated his own construction company for several years before going to work for Gaeke Construction in Giddings in 1985. He retired from Gaeke as a project superintendent. Lloyd enjoyed working and was always keeping himself busy. He died Friday, Oct. 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, Noel Russell, Garland Russell, Elbert Russell, Junior Russell, Joe Russell and Laverl Russell; four sisters, Maxine Trembeth, Virginia Russell, Lois Russell and Louella Vaverka; one sister-in-law, Betty Wood and one brother-in-law, Billy Oppermann. Lloyd is survived by his two children, Wesley Russell and his wife, Sharon of Dime Box, and Kimberly Russell of Hutto; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Douglas Wood of Ledbetter as well as several nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
