Kovar
Funeral services for H.F. “Ham” Kovar, 86, of Ledbetter, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating. Burial followed in the Hranice Cemetery in Dime Box. Herman Franklin Kovar was born on July 15, 1932 in Old Dime Box, one of ten children born to John Joe Kovar and Lydia Mae (Alcorn) Kovar. He married Mary Sue Garner on May 23, 1953 in Groesbeck. Ham retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a maintenance machine operator after 45 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Giddings, the Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and looking after his yard, especially mowing. Ham died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 at Jefferson Place Assisted Living Center in La Grange. Ham is survived by his two sons, Richard Kovar and his wife, Linda of Ledbetter, and Renee Kovar of Crystal Beach; his daughter, Marissa Brooks and her husband, Damion of College Station; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Kovar and his wife, Betty of Giddings and Johnny Kovar and Leanne Diab of Rockdale; four sisters, Billie Marie Brinkman & her husband, Buddy of Caldwell, Patsy Bollier of Humble, Polly Corbett of Rogers and Alice Price of Wortham as well as several nieces and nephews. Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.
