Eva McQueen
Eva McQueen, 90, of Carmine, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. A native of Ragley, La., and a former long time resident of Jasper, she had lived in Carmine since 1991. The Valdictorian of her class at Ragley, La. she completed her nursing certification at Angelina College then served as an LVN at Jasper Memorial Hospital and a LPN in Louisiana for many years prior to her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed the Church of Christ Ladies Fellowship and Bible Study in La Grange. She loved songbirds and hummingbirds and could identify the bird by its song. She loved nature, especially flowers and trees. When her children were young she was very resourceful with a huge garden and a large pantry filled with canned goods. She was a great cook, chicken and dumplings, pot roast, biscuits, gumbo, and her speciality-German Sweet Chocolate Cake. She is survived by son Tommy J. McQueen and wife Jean of Lake Jackson, daughter Cheryl Etzel and husband Floyd of Carmine. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Eva was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Annie Barrow, her husband Arthur McQueen, son Jerry Lynn Mc- Queen, brother and sister-in-law James & Lettie Barrow; a sister and brother-in-law Pat and Donald VanWinkle, a sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Tom White. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with burial to follow at Jasper City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper was in charge of arrangements.
