TALE OF TWO CITIES

On Wednesday the Fayetteville town council heard former mayor Ronnie Pflughaupt deliver a lengthy defense of the town’s budgeting practices under his longtime leadership.

Pflughaupt was responding to recent criticism of the town’s relationship with the SPJST baseball field just outside the town limits by current councilmembers and citizens.

The amount of money the town spent on the facility during Pflughaupt’s tenure and since is in dispute, but former councilman Greg Gillespie summed up the situation by commenting that he supports using taxpayer money to improve the city “rather than the ballpark that we don’t own. We have spent enough money at this point. We need to back away.”
