Billy Mike Roberts
Billy Mike Roberts, 84, and Bobbie Jean (Beran) Roberts, 79, of La Grange, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.
Billy Mike was born in La Grange on March 26, 1929, the son of Michael Benjamin Roberts and Evelyne (Mennike)
Roberts. Bobbie Jean was born in La Grange on May 22, 1934, the daughter of Bob and Leona (Zaskoda) Beran. Billy Mike and Bobbie Jean were married on July 18, 1954 in La Grange. Billy Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 11, 1948 and was honorably discharged on July 30, 1952. Billy Mike worked for the Texas Highway Department as an Engineering Inspector and retired on May 31, 1987 with 33 years of service. He was a lifetime honorary member of the Knights of
Columbus. He was a member for 47 years and achieved 3rd degree knight status. Bobbie Jean was raised in Ellinger
and moved to La Grange when she and Billy Mike married. She graduated from Southwest Texas State at the age of 20.
After graduating from college, she became a second grade teacher for La Grange ISD and retired with 40 years of service. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962 and Sacred
Heart Ladies’ Altar Society. They are survived by sons: Michael Roberts and wife, Suzanne, of La Grange and Mitch
Roberts and wife, Jill, of Cedar Park; grandchildren: Jay Roberts and wife Minnie, Jamie Lynn Roberts and boyfriend, Isidro Aguillon; Casey Neal Shaw and Emily; Lance Shaw; Taylor Brooks Roberts; and Bryce Cole Finn Noel Roberts; brothers, Richard Roberts of La Grange and John C. Roberts and wife, Eugenia, of Three Rivers; aunt, Mildred Slanina of Ellinger; great-grandchildren: Bren, Brayla, and Brek, and numerous nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by their parents; step father, Jerome Cernoch; sister, Florice Zapalac; sisters-in-law: Vivian Roberts and Jeannie Roberts. Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov.
