Rural on Purpose
Carpenter Nails It
According to a Fox News program host, anywhere rural in the USA is the new Detroit. In other words, folks in this part of Texas are poor, barefoot, pregnant and unwed, and can’t afford a ham for New Year’s family dinner. There’s a big drug problem at all ages, and a teen pot smoking problem, and most of the good rural industrial jobs have moved out to the metropolitan environs, or where they hire Mexican or Chinese workers — in Mexico and China.
An awful lot of people here have personally chosen the country life. And while any comparison to a big bankrupt city seems a stretch, it’s true one of our water covered, driveway potholes can gobble a UPS van before you can say, “Who ordered this?”, and cattle collect along highway fence lines to watch the local traffic and swap adult humor . . . when the young stock are out of earshot.
