Rae Robson Cupples Field, 80, died in La Grange on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. We who loved her have lost the most wonderful person who has walked the face of the earth. She was a magnificent wife, mother, grandmother, friend and

care-giver to more four-legged creatures and critters than we can remember. She always said she loved babies, especially when they were old enough to communicate with, but show her a puppy, a kitten or a colt and she was in 

heaven. She had permits from the State of Texas and the federal government to rehabilitate wildlife. We had many possums, raccoons and baby birds at our house. Most memorable were a broken-winged buzzard named Fred and a six-foot boa constrictor named Julius Squeezer. She loved taking them in the Zoomobile to show children. Rae was a docent at the Houston Zoo, a founder of the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition (TWRC) and a founding director of the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange. She was born Oct. 21, 1933, in Shreveport, La., to Robson and Genevieve Cupples. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert L. Field of La Grange, son Robert Lee Field, Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; daughter Lyn Robson Field Mc- Cormick and her husband Andrew Charles McCormick, Easton,

Md.; grandchildren Edward Brenton McCormick, Daniel James McCormick, Charles Robson McCormick, Andrew Robert McCormick, Robert Lee Field IV, and Elizabeth Ann Field. She is also survived by Willie, Spencer, Max, Motor Cat,

Honey, Travis Ann and a coop of pigeons. A graveside service was held at Winchester Cemetery in Winchester at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, conducted by Rev. J. Paul Bruhn, pastor of First United Methodist Church of La Grange. Family and friends also celebrated Rae’s life at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at Celebrations by Bistro 108 on the Square in La Grange. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, Texas 78945 Koenig and Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
