Elmond Henry Baumbach
Elmond Henry Baumbach, 85, of La Grange, died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019.
E.H. was born in Fayetteville on July 13, 1933, the son of Lee Roy and Adela (Polasek) Baumbach. He was the husband of Gloria (Baca) Baumbach. They were married on May 9, 1953 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
E.H. spent his life as a banker and cattle rancher. He started his career at La Grange State Bank in 1952. He retired in 1996 after being Bank President for 14 years.
His passion and hobby was the cattle business. E.H. purchased his first calf after winning a cash award by participating in a high school cattle judging contest at the Houston Livestock Show. He continued to raise cattle throughout his life.
In retirement, he rarely missed a morning visit with his group of buddies at Kort’s Korner and lunch with his Fayetteville friends. He especially enjoyed his grandkids, cooking for family and friends, as well as happy hour in his “Rutersville Country Club”.
E.H. was a volunteer for the Fayette County Jr. Livestock Show, Fayette County Fair Director and served on the Fayette Memorial Hospital Board. He was also a high school basketball official for 22 years.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Grange, American Brahman Breeders Association and the Rutersville Sons of Hermann.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughter, Karen Mayer and husband, Don, of La Grange and their sons, Matt Mayer and fiancée, Liusa Liu and Chris Mayer and wife, Melissa; daughter, Jan Fox and husband, Michael, of Houston: son, Russell Baumbach and wife, Kristen, of Weimar and their son, Tyler, and daughter, Kendall; son, Rod Baumbach and wife, Sanya, of Burton and their son, Bryce.
E.H. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Lambert and Clement “Champ” Baumbach.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019. Private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department or the American Heart Association.
