Number of Children In Poverty Here Rising

It’s common to hear people who grew up in rural areas during the Great Depression say something like, “We didn’t know we were poor.” These days people are officially considered poor when total income for a family of four is below $22,350 per year, although some advocates say that figure is 50 percent too low.
