Monogram Foods ceased operations at its production facility in Schulenburg on Monday, March 4.

In a statement issued on Monday, Monogram said the unexpected loss of its only customer is forcing the company to stop production at the Monogram Pet Treats facility, located at 1315 Russek St. in Schulenburg.

"Monogram has been one of the larger employers in the Schulenburg area with a high quality, low turnover workforce of less than 100 team members. Monogram is offering current Pet Treats team members employment and relocation assistance at any of Monogram’s eight other plants," the release stated.

Monogram said its Schulenburg production plant is a FDA facility and could be converted into a USDA facility quickly and economically.  Assets include 88 flow-through smokehouse rack positions, a new multi-million dollar wastewater facility and the dedicated workforce.  Monogram’s CEO Karl Schledwitz stated, “We made good products consistently and safely with our highly capable Schulenburg workforce.  If Monogram cannot stay, we would love to see someone take advantage of this great production opportunity by acquiring it.”

The company said Monogram Pet Treats operations account for about 1% of annual business for Monogram Foods.

Monogram Foods was founded in 2004 with the purchase of King Cotton and Circle B brand meats from Sara Lee Corporation, Monogram Foods is headquartered in Memphis, Tenn. and manufactures and markets top-quality food products. Monogram Foods is a major co-packer and private label provider for strategic partners throughout the nation. The company operates facilities in Virginia, Minnesota, Indiana, Texas, Iowa, Wisconsin and Massachusetts.
