The sound of black powder rifle shots rang out over the Colorado River Valley as Monument Hill State Park held its annual Texas Heroes Day festivities Saturday honoring the men who fought for Texas Independence who are buried in the park.

For the first time in the 143 year history of the Round Top Schützen Verein, a son has followed his father as the “Shooting King” or Schützenkönig. Dillon Marburger succeeded his father Marvin as the champ in his first year as a member of the Round Top Rifle Association.
