Fayette County sent a cease and desist letter to a company installing a pipeline without proper permits. The company, Aspen Midstream, told the Record that it was attempting to comply with the County’s regulations while aiming to keep workers employed during the current economic crisis in the oil and gas industry.

La Grange native and star running back J.K. Dobbins was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the NFL football draft Friday. Dobbins was the 55th overall player chosen. After his selection, Dobbins shared the above doctored photo of him already wearing a Baltimore jersey with the announcement that he planned to wear No. 27 with the Ravens (he wore No. 22 with the Leps and No. 2 at Ohio State). The new number is an apparent homage to J.K.’s late father, Lawrance Dobbins, who wore No. 27 when he starred for the Leps in the 1990s. Lots more on Dobbins on Page B1 today.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office wants to give some big raises to its two drug interdiction officers. The request came at the same meeting last Thursday in which the county auditor said she anticipates a significant dip in revenue due to the economic shutdown and advised officials to tighten spending.

La Grange’s Annabelle Combs celebrated her fifth birthday Tuesday. Because of coronavirus precautions, she couldn’t have a normal birthday party, but dozens of cars (and one horse and one goat) came by her front yard to wish her a happy birthday. Annabelle is shown here petting the horse as she is held by her mother Alyssa. Annabelle and one of her brothers, Jude, both have Spinal Muscle Atrophy (SMA) a progressive genetic disorder. The Combs family was poised to hold their 5th annual 5k to Cure SMA in honor of their kids earlier this year but had to postpone it because of coronavirus precautions. Class rankings and grading were on the minds of the LGISD school board when they met on Monday evening. The board determined that the class rankings for the senior class of 2020 will be determined by the grades earned through the fourth six weeks grading period. This was completed before the school closed and distance learning began. This change is for this year only.

Coronavirus claimed its first local victims this week. Fayette County’s first official death due to COVID-19 came Wednesday, April 22. The victim was a man from the Schulenburg area in his 70s.
