Molly Machala and Richard Cernosek met at a wedding dance in Houston on May 21, 1949. Although both young people were born and raised in Fayette County, that was the first time they’d set eyes on each other.

The Fayette County Office of Emergency Management released a new Fayette County Coronavirus Tracker on its website this week. The tracker lists the number of cases in each commissioner precinct, which provides a closer look at the virus’ spread throughout the county.

Fayette County Judge Joe Weber signed an order closing hotels and other lodging establishments in the county to visitors in an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19 virus. The order goes into effect at noon today, Tuesday, April 7.

Fayette County has 16 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, as of Monday afternoon, April 6. The County reported that two people have recovered.

Fayette County set up a tent and drive-through canopy at the Fayette County Fairgrounds this week in preparation for a centralized COVID-19 testing site for the county. County Judge Joe Weber said the county is not yet ready begin centralized testing. He and other officials planned to meet with local healthcare professionals on Thursday to develop a plan for testing. Weber said he is trying to obtain coronavirus test kits that provide quick results before launching the testing site. “It’s not going to work very well if we test a bunch of people and then tell them to wait five days.” Weber said the county will announce details about centralized testing once those plans are finalized.
