Miles Gillette-Bockhorn is a 16-year-old sophomore honors student at Fayetteville High School. This past Memorial Day, Bockhorn received a gold medal and was selected as an Outstanding Performer at the 2018 State UIL Solo and Ensemble competition.

Over the past two editions we covered local students who atended Texas Boys State in Austin last week. Among the highlights were a bill to settle "any and all lawsuits with a trial by combat," and a bill to legalize marijuana in Texas.

Precipitation has been a bit scarce since a high pressure system settled in over the state in May. No significant amount of rain fell anywhere in Fayette County since then. There was even talk of a burn ban.

Colorado River fishing and waterfowling guide Ronny Ray, who lives near Plum, invited yours truly to take a trip on the river last week. We were initially scheduled for the week before, but the water came up and the river got big and muddy.
