Powerlifting is a sport that is becoming more popular across the globe, so La Grange High School seniors Maddie Stevens and Ja’Keia Williams decided they wanted to give it a whirl – and both qualified for the state meet this season. However that meet was cancelled because of the coronavirus.

Fayetteville High School’s Gracie Dyer won the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 1A individual 3-point title for the entire state. She made a total of 95 threes this season.

Aidan Wagner, a senior at Round Top-Carmine High School, was recently selected as a KBTX News 3 Classroom Champion. Classroom Champions are high school seniors at the top of their class nominated by teachers who excel in both sports and academics. Aidan played varsity basketball and baseball while maintaining a 4.2 GPA. He was nominated and chosen for on air interview by KBTX News 3 Bryan/College Station in January. He will be attending the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University in the Fall.

Last week Fayetteville High School multi-sport star Amber Canik accepted an offer and committed to play basketball at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.

La Grange High School basketball star Aaliyah Hunt has accepted an offer to play basketball at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, just north of Wichita.

The NFL draft begins April 23 and La Grange fans will be watching and waiting for former Leopard star J.K. Dobbins’ name to be called as one of the first running backs selected. Pro scouts seem to agree that Dobbins, after three stellar years at Ohio State, is one of the best backs available.

Nobody knows when or even if high school sports are going to resume, but La Grange boys and girls athletic directors Matt Kates and Leslie Coltrain have been working to stay in touch with athletes to keep they healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.
