La Grange High School graduate Christina (Zbranek) Halata, the head coach of the Hallettsville Sacred Heart girls basketball team, led her squad to a private school 2A state title Saturday in Fort Worth with a 53-29 victory over Muenster Sacred Heart.

At about the same time as the Weimar girls were winning their first-ever state basketball title Saturday in San Antonio, the Schulenburg boys saw their hoops season come to an end in New Braunfels, one step short of the state tournament.

The La Grange High School girls softball team just keeps getting better – and has now won 17 games in a row. The Lady Leps won all six games they played Thursday- Saturday at the A&M Consolidated tournament, often in dominating fashion.

When every member of the starting lineup scores, it’s usually a good sign for your team. The La Grange Leps really broke out the bats Tuesday, cranking out 14 hits in a 17-7 victory over a sloppy New Waverly team that didn’t help its own cause with six errors.

The last two Fayette County basketball teams alive in the playoffs had very different fates Friday in the 2A Area Round. The Schulenburg boys turned a game that was close early into a 60-44 victory over Snook thanks to a dominant second half in their playoff game in Bellville.

The La Grange baseball team got the 2016 regular season off to a strong, albeit, delayed, start with a 6-5 victory over Weimar Wednesday. The season opener was delayed a day because of bad weather, but better late than never, five Lep pitchers combined to limit the Wildcats to just six hits.
