When Fayette County built its current jail in 1985, county leaders probably did not envision a day when they would need more than four beds for female inmates. Today, the county often transfers female inmates to other facilities when those four beds fill up.
Fayette County Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a resolution supporting a county-wide hotel occupancy tax at a meeting on Monday, Dec. 12. Pct. 4 Commissioners Tom Muras voted against the resolution.
A 19-year-old died Wednesday after getting struck by a vehicle near the Swiss Alp Dancehall, located about halfway between La Grange and Schulenburg on US 77. According to a report from Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Dan Mueller, the deceased was Kersey Lorenzo Jones of Goliad.

The City of La Grange delivered a cease and desist letter to La Grange Subway after the business turned on its LED sign last week, in violation of the City’s sign ordinance. Subway owner Tom Hudson said he turned on the sign on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Fayette County employees can now join the Lower Colorado River Authority Credit Union. Credit union representatives Ken Taylor and Betty Mueller made a presentation to Commissioners Court on Monday, Nov. 14.

Volunteers with the Texas Ramp Project teamed up with Farmers Lumber Company on Tuesday, Nov. 1, to build a wheelchair ramp for Jim Matheson, a retired Farmers employee who recently suffered some health problems.
