Rhoda Gersch and Margaret Atkins came by the Record office Tuesday to talk about the Quilt Block Trail they have established lately in the Winchester area. It is an idea with roots in Wisconsin and Kansas.

On Monday, Sept. 10, the Round Top Board of Aldermen accepted the resignation of Barnell Albers as mayor and, acting on the nomination of Barry Bone by mayor pro tem Ronny Sacks, voted to appoint Bone as mayor to serve out the first year of Albers’ sixth two-year term.

In an interview with the Record Friday, long-time Round Top mayor Barnell Albers, announced he has resigned his post.
Albers has been mayor of the bustling little town for six two year terms, but has been caught up in several controversies over the past year.

“It’s been a long process,” according to Jay and Asha Jajal, speaking of getting their La Grange motel, the iconic Cottonwood Inn, back into shape after the historic flood a year ago. “The water came in on Aug. 28 in the morning,” Asha recalled.

Flatonia High School has a new teacher/coach this year. His name is Cameron Greene.
Greene grew up in Wharton, which is where he got his first coaching job after graduating from Sam Houston State University. After that he was in Palacios and now Flatonia.

Deanna Schley is new to Fayetteville ISD, where she will be teaching Pre-K this year, but she is not new to teaching younger children. “I am starting my seventh year teaching,” she said Monday in a brief interview during a break in preparation at her new campus.

After a year with pre-schoolers in Brenham, this will be her first year as a public school teacher.
