School officials at all the schools in Fayette County decided to cancel classes tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 16, in anticipation of a winter storm that is forecasted to bring ice and snow.

In 1962 Grover and Charlotte Hillbolt saw an ad for a 70-acre property just outside of Round Top. They liked Bellaire in Houston, but, having both grown up in small (make that tiny) Texas towns, they were craving a return to a more rural environment.

The candidates for Fayette County Judge gathered Tuesday at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club to tout their credentials for the job in front of a capacity crowd at the annual La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce banquet. Each of the candidates spoke to the crowd for about five minutes.

After a drunk driver sideswiped the Round Top restroom building on the square in December, knocking it off its foundation and rendering it unusable, councilmembers Monday took a preliminary step toward its replacement by agreeing to seek a cost estimate.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department presented longtime firefighter Albert Loehr with a 50-year membership pin at the department’s open house last month. Loehr joined the department on August 21, 1965. He was 27 years old.

The holiday season officially came to an end Thursday, as least as far as Fayette County and La Grange officials were concerned. County employees descended on the courthouse lawn to remove the numerous Christmas decorations that had adorned the grounds for the past month.
