The biggest news item out of the Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting was the public hearing and votes over the proposed tax abatement program. But that wasn’t the only news. Commissioners took up a total of forty items in a four hour meeting on Thursday. The following are a few of the highlights:

So many people showed up to the public hearing last Thursday on the proposal to start offering tax abatements that county leaders had to move the meeting from the small commissioners courtroom inside the courthouse to the Fayette County Ag Building.

Round Top writer Sally Reynolds told the town council Monday that she is interviewing some longtime locals for a booklet of “recollections and remembrances” which will be produced and distributed leading up to the town’s sesquicentennial (150th) birthday celebration this summer. Ten thousand copies of the privately-funded 32 page effort will be printed by the Fayette County Record. About five thousand will be included with copies of the newspaper. The balance will be distributed to area libraries and businesses. In other business, the council:

A search team at Fayette Lake on Monday found the bodies of two men who remained missing after a boat accident Saturday night. That brings the official death toll from the accident to three men.
