Fayette County Commissioners unanimously approved guidelines for future tax abatements at a meeting last Thursday, Feb. 27. The move clears the path for Candella Renewables to apply for tax incentives to build a proposed solar farm in the Muldoon area. Candella has indicated at a previous meeting that the project is not financially viable without tax incentives from the County and Flatonia Independent School District.

Assistant County Attorney Harold Streicher retired last week after 18 years of service to Fayette County. That service capped off an extraordinary four decades in the legal profession, which included winning one case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

February 29 is a day that only comes around every four years, but it may be remembered in Fayette County for a lot longer than that. Saturday was a banner day for locals as the Schulenburg girls basketball team stormed to the regional title and a berth in the state tournament this week in the Alamodome. Meanwhile, over in Houston, the Fayette County Go-Texan barbecue team beat out more than 250 other teams competing at the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest to be named Overall Grand Champion in addition to being named Go-Texan Grand Champion.
