Schulenburg-area rancher Steve Dees watched a scene on Monday morning that’ll turn any cattleman’s stomach – a quarter-million dollars’worth of his cattle floating down the West Navidad River.

Gene Wessels lives on the banks of the Colorado River near Plum with his wife Ruth. Wessels is 86 and still plays a mean game of tennis. Early in May he was honored for his military service in the Korean War by being chosen for an “Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. with other Korean War vets.

The La Grange Main Street & Visitors Bureau has announced an expanded summer event schedule which includes a series of free summer movie nights on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn over the next few months.

Nelda Barton, a beloved member of the family that has owned the Fayette County Record since 1976, died at her home in La Grange Tuesday.The Fayette County Record will be closed Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Voters in three Fayette County communities all sent the same message – and did so emphatically – in voting Saturday. That message was that they like things the way they are. Longtime mayors in La Grange and Fayetteville were re-elected.
