County Commissioners parted ways with College Station-based BRW Architects, the firm initially selected to design the new Fayette County EMS Headquarters. Commissioners voted unanimously to reject a contract with BRW Architects at a special meeting held on Monday, April 3.

The Lyric Theater in Flatonia will show a movie for the first time in nearly a half century on Friday, April 7. Best of all, owner James Longmire is charging the same ticket price as the last time a movie played there – just 35 cents – on opening night only.

Authorities are investigating three storage unit break-ins that have occurred in the last two weeks near the antiques fairs in the northern part of the County, and two more in La Grange.

A sudden thunderstorm with strong winds caused severe damage to a home and barn in the Muldoon area on Friday, March 24.
The damage occurred on property belonging to Art and Barbara Chamberlin on Boulton Creek Road. The storm rolled across the Chamberlin property around 6 p.m.

New construction is booming in the northern part of Fayette County.
“As Donald Trump would say, it’s blowing up,” said Fayette County Floodplain Administrator Janet Carrigan, who tracks new construction in the unincorporated areas of Fayette County.
La Grange Subway owner Tom Hudson filed a lawsuit in district court earlier this month against the City of La Grange. Hudson is seeking a permanent injunction against further enforcement of the City’s sign ordinance.

Work began this week on the new Fayette Savings branch office in Flatonia. Bank president David Zapalac told the Record on Friday that the new location should open sometime this fall.
