The City of Flatonia ended its participation in the Fayette County Narcotics Task Force last week. Flatonia City Council unanimously voted to quit the task force in a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 14. Flatonia City Manager Mark McLaughlin said he recommended the change to the council.

Work continues on both ends of the ditch which drains water from downtown La Grange to the Colorado River. Stone “mattresses” have filled the large eroded area adjacent to the east Bus. 71 bridge buttress and others are being placed at the river end of the trench.
Last Friday the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Lobos, stopped a Buick Park Avenue on Interstate 10 and found five bundles of cocaine taped to the interior of the rear quarter panels.

The mother of a truck driver who died at the Fayette County Jail in 2014 is suing the County for the wrongful death of her son. The case goes to jury trial on Monday, Aug. 21, in the Southern Texas Federal District Court in Houston.

An 18-wheeler burst into flames following an accident on US 77 Monday morning, Aug. 14. The accident happened near Race Track Road, about 3.5 miles north of La Grange.

Dana Kulak is the new 6th grade math teacher at Hermes Intermediate School in La Grange. She grew up in Boling, down in Wharton County. “It’s got a four-way stop,” Kulak said. It also has an ISD spread over three communities: Boling, Iago and Newgulf.
