After a drunk driver sideswiped the Round Top restroom building on the square in December, knocking it off its foundation and rendering it unusable, councilmembers Monday took a preliminary step toward its replacement by agreeing to seek a cost estimate.

An alledgedly drunk driver in a pickup hit two cars and then damaged the Round Top public restroom building on the Round Top square Monday night at 8:32 p.m. according to Fayette County Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie.

It’s fruitcake season again at Lukas Bakery in La Grange and it’s also the 70th anniversary of Lukas family ownership of the little bakery on the square.

For over a year, local veteran John D. Marburger had been “bugging” Dick Peck, a highly decorated Vietnam War fighter pilot, to apply for one of the “Honor Flights” for veterans to Washington D.C. Peck finally said “yes” and returned from the experience on Veterans Day.

Steel Magnolias is a 1987 play by Robert Harling. It will premier in a local production at the La Grange Casino Hall Nov. 2-5. It is the third play produced by the Fayette County Community Theater during its first year. The Nov. 2 performance is a benefit for Second Chance Emporium.
